ABOUT US

Tumbleweed Compadre, Inc. (DTA) is a small day program serving adults with developmental disabilities in the Tucson area. We have been meeting the needs of our participants since opening our doors in 1990. Our participants are involved in a strong and supportive program that emphasizes choice, progress and community. We offer many different activities here at the facility, and give our participants the opportunity to go to a variety of places within the community. One of the more unique aspects of our program is the use of animal therapy. We use animals (horses, goats and dogs) to teach socialization skills, sensory input through movement, nurturing, as well as fine and gross motor skills. We have found the use of animal therapy to be extremely successful in modifying mal-adaptive behaviors, building self-esteem and fostering the ability to empathize with others.  At Tumbleweed Compadre we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our participants, and by providing the tools and structure necessary, we believe the difference made will eventually mean no difference at all.
